At the same time, heart attacks and strokes are known to occur more frequently during the morning hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Put those facts together, and an alarming theory seems obvious: <strong>Does drinking coffee before water leave the blood more concentrated and increase the risk of a heart attack or stroke?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The reality is more complicated \u2014 and far more interesting.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-vertical is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-4fc3f8e1 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Coffee does contain caffeine, which can increase urine production under certain circumstances. But moderate coffee consumption does not normally cause significant dehydration in people who regularly drink it. More importantly, the morning increase in cardiovascular events appears to be driven primarily by the body&#8217;s circadian rhythm, blood-pressure surge, sympathetic nervous system activation, platelet activity, and changes in the body&#8217;s ability to dissolve blood clots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So what really happens inside your body during those first hours after dehydrated overnight. However, water continues to leave the body through breathing, urine, and perspiration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you wake up, your hydration status therefore may be slightly different from when you went to bed, particularly after a hot night, heavy sweating, illness, alcohol consumption, or inadequate fluid intake during the previous day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This has led to the popular recommendation to drink water immediately after waking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For most healthy people, drinking water in the morning is a perfectly reasonable habit. The magnitude of that effect depends partly on the amount of caffeine consumed and how accustomed a person is to caffeine.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-vertical is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-4fc3f8e1 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-vertical is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-4fc3f8e1 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Research comparing different caffeine doses has found that high doses can significantly increase short-term urine production, while lower doses may have little meaningful effect on fluid balance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regular coffee drinkers also develop some tolerance to caffeine&#8217;s effects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most importantly, coffee itself contains a large amount of water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This means that drinking a normal cup of coffee does not simply remove water from your body. But there is no good evidence that drinking an ordinary cup of coffee before water suddenly makes the blood dangerously thick or triggers clot formation in a healthy person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And this distinction is important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-border-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\" attacks and ischemic strokes usually involve complex disease processes that develop over years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a heart attack, an atherosclerotic plaque inside a coronary artery may become disrupted, triggering platelet activation and formation of a blood clot that restricts blood flow to heart muscle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In an ischemic stroke, <a href=\"https:\/\/medatlashealth.com\/rs\/how-blood-circulates-through-your-body\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/medatlashealth.com\/how-blood-circulates-through-your-body\/\">blood flow<\/a> to part of the brain becomes blocked, often because of a thrombus or embolus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hydration can influence circulation, but these events cannot generally be explained simply by whether someone drank a glass of water before their morning
